BP settlement bill dies in senate, kills chance for more medicaid funding

BP settlement bill dies in senate, kills chance for more medicaid funding

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The BP settlement bill had to make it out of the general fund committee on Tuesday. However it did not, and the bill officially died for the session.

Many lawmakers believed this bill was the last chance at meaningful medicaid funding.

If passed, the bill would have freed up $70 million for medicaid. However, it all fell apart in a committee meeting on Tuesday.

With the bill dying, Medicaid will end the session with an $85 million hole and, barring a special session, more money does not look to be coming.
