DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The Dothan Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the West Main Convenience store around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday night.

According to police, the suspect robbed a clerk at gunpoint outside of the store after business hours.

It's early in the investigation and information is limited, but police say the suspect had a gun, his face was completely covered and he was able to escape with a bank bag full of money.

Police found the money bag empty on Wednesday, about three miles away from the store at the intersection of Cherokee and Osceola streets.

Investigators say the suspect may be connected to an attempted robbery that occurred at a Dollar General on West Main Street on Sunday.

"About the same time, same area, same m.o. We're in the very early stages; we still have a lot of video to look at, a lot of people to talk to and a lot of witnesses to find. I couldn't tell you if there was a car involved, or another individual involved, but the indications are that there were," said Dothan Investigator Curtis Stephens.

Police are asking anyone who has surveillance video near the Dollar General or the convenience store to contact the police department. If you have any further information call crime stoppers at 793-7000.
