PIKE CO., AL (WSFA) - A suspect is dead after an armed robbery at a house in Pike County, according to Sheriff Russell Thomas. Deputies responded to a residence on County Road 3016 in the Spring Hill community around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The homeowner said he answered a knock at his door, and three people, one armed with a handgun, walked in. Thomas added that there was a 1-year-old child sleeping inside the residence.

There was a struggle between the suspects and homeowner, and shots were fired. The homeowner gained control of the gun, and the suspects fled the residence. About 200 yards from the residence, Javonte King, 21, of Troy, was found dead.

The weapon used in the shooting was recovered, the sheriff said. King's body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Davaris Mendenhall, 21, and Anthony Jerome Starks, 23, both of Troy, were taken into custody and charged with first degree robbery and murder.

According to the sheriff, Mendenhall was out on bond for a robbery charge in Pike County and a murder charge in Dallas County. He's now being held without bond. Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said he will file a motion to revoke his bond in the Dallas County murder case.

Starks' bond was set at $250,000, but it has since been raised to $500,000.

An additional suspect is also wanted, but no other details about that person have been made public.
