MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) - A corrections officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections has been charged with assaulting an inmate at a Montgomery County prison.
According to ADOC, Cornelius Simpson, 39, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with second degree assault against an inmate.
Simpson was assigned to Kilby Correctional Facility in Mt. Meigs in east Montgomery County. He has been with the ADOC since 2009.
According to court documents, Simpson struck the known inmate with a closed fist and several times with a baton. Simpson also choked the inmate by the neck with the intent to cause injury by means of a dangerous instrument, according to the court documents.
Simpson was transported to the Montgomery County Jail. He has since bonded out and has requested a preliminary hearing.
