MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery police have identified the two victims killed in an early Monday morning shooting as John Riley, 21, and Quarnavious Hamilton, 24.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 4700 block of Park Towne Way at approximately 3:45 a.m. on reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found Riley's body. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Hamilton was taken to an area hospital by private vehicle, but he later died of his injuries.

An investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the men. Riley's death is classified as a homicide, while Hamilton's is listed as a death investigation due to evidence showing he was the primary aggressor, according to police.

Further investigation indicates that while Hamilton was the aggressor, Riley returned fire and fatally wounded Hamilton in defense.

Both deaths remain under investigation.

Riley and Hamilton were involved in Montgomery's fifth shooting in four days of the Memorial Day weekend.
