MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A Montgomery police officer has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of an adult male while he was on duty.

The officer, 27-year-old Deonte Lashawn Hamner, was arrested Tuesday on a felony first degree sodomy charge. He was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility where he's being held on a bond of $60,000.

MPD initiated its investigation Tuesday after receiving allegations of sexual assault involving an on-duty police officer. The assault is alleged to have occurred after the officer stopped the victim's vehicle relative to a noise complaint.

Hamner graduated from the police academy in 2014.

The police department said disciplinary proceedings have started against Hamner, who has been placed on administrative leave.
