MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A vigil was held in Montgomery Thursday night to honor the four people, including two young children, killed in a crash in Chilton County last week.
One of the organizers of the vigil lost family members in the crash, and he had a message to deliver.
"I mean, don't wait until death comes around to be a family. Like the guy said, a family that stay together prays together. I mean, family is everything. I mean, it shouldn't take the loss of four young girls to bring us together as a family," DeWillis Rivers said.
Rivers lost a child, a girlfriend, a sister and a niece in the wreck. He wanted people to come together to remember and celebrate the lives lost last week. He says his faith is helping him cope.
Destini Davis, 21, of Montgomery, Tarlanda Davenport, 22, and two children under the age of 2 were killed on Highway 82 near Maplesville in a collision with a log truck.
Troopers say none of the four people killed in the crash were using seatbels or properly utilizing child restraints.
