Mike Dean named new Stanhope Elmore coach, athletics director

ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - The Elmore County Board of Education has voted to hire Mike Dean, the former coach at Charles Henderson High School, as the new football coach and athletics director at Stanhope Elmore High School.

"Tremendous opportunity," Dean said of getting the job. "I think anybody that knows the foundation that the Foshee's have put in place, but the community that Millbrook has, the talent  that they have, I've always said is a sleeping giant," the new Mustang's coach stated.

Dean replaces Jeff Foshee who resigned in an emergency-called meeting on June 7. Foshee had coached the Mustangs since 2000. Prior to that his father, Jimmy, held the position for a quarter-century.

Dean said he's planning to add on to what the Foshees have done and "tweek" things. "Champions embrace change," he stated.

Dean said he won't just focus on football at SEHS. "It's in every program. We're going to build champions off the field that are going to create champions on the field."

No stranger to 'Fever Country', Dean is excited to be back. While coaching at Charles Henderson, he lead his 2013 team to the 4A AHSAA State Championship game.
