LEE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - A Lee County family's efforts to raise money for their sick daughter was halted when a donation jar they had placed at an Beauregard gas station was stolen.
Surveillance video from Mike's Gas and Grocery captured a woman and two men swiping the donation jar right off the counter and walking out.
Thanks to the quick thinking of the young girl's parents, the video was posted to social media in hopes of tracking down those responsible. With information from the community, the Lee County Sheriff's Office was able to make an arrest.
Alexis Herron, 23, has been charged with theft of property. Right now authorities are still working to locate the two remaining suspects.
"The money they were trying to generate was going to be used in such a precious manner. We in law enforcement want to do everything we can do to assist them and make them feel that someone cares besides the citizens. We want to take every step we can to bring those who put them in a position to have this crime committed against them to justice," said Capt. Van Jackson with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Although the crime is only a misdemeanor, a person can get up to a year in the county jail.
