TALLAPOOSA CO., AL (WSFA) - A Fourth of July bust in Tallapoosa County has netted two arrests and the recovery of a large amount of drugs and cash, according to the sheriff's office.
Agents with the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at an Alex City home while Alex City police officers made a traffic stop based on info about a possible crime in progress.
The Alex City officers found a large amount of marijuana and a stolen firearm during the stop and notified the Task Force of a "person of interest" they were seeking for possible drug crimes.
A search warrant was obtained on the suspect's home and detectives seized approximately 120 grams of high grade marijuana, 11 grams of cocaine, 20 Ecstasy pills, 21 Xanax bars and $6,400 in cash.
Arrested were Kilpatrick Cornelius McKinney, 33, and Jeffery Lamar Smith, 36, both of Alex City.
McKinney is charged with possession with the intent to distribute, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of first degree possession of marijuana, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, second degree receiving stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smith is charged with first degree possession of marijuana, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, second degree receiving stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff's office say the investigation is ongoing.
