MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The East Alabama community college merger is "pausing," according to the Alabama Community College System.
In a statement, Chancellor Mark Heinrich said there is no time table for the merger right now.
Heinrich said slowing down the process with help them satisfy various requirements from the U.S. Department of Education, the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
They will also work to pass legislation to move forward with the full consolidation plans.
Heinrich said the Southern Alabama community college merger is on schedule.
