Services set for fmr. Montgomery Police Chief John Wilson

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A memorial service will be held Thursday afternoon in Montgomery to honor the late former Police Chief John Wilson, according to officials.

Spokesperson for the Montgomery Department of Public Safety Martha Earnhardt says the service will be held at 4 p.m. at Frazer United Methodist Church. Rev. E. Baxter Morris, senior pastor of First Baptist Church and Montgomery Police Department Chaplain will officiate.

Members of the Montgomery community and others are welcome to attend.

The department confirmed Chief Wilson's death on Saturday. MPD released the following statement:

"It is with sadness that today, Saturday July 16, 2016, the Montgomery Police Department has confirmed the death of retired Montgomery Police Chief John Wilson."

The department learned through Wilson's family that the former chief died away from his home on Saturday.
