MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Hey, no Heat Advisories today! While it may not feel very different, the heat has backed off slightly from late last week. Emphasis on the word slightly. Truthfully, it's tough to tell there's a difference at all. The space between a heat index of 103 and 106 is pretty snug, but it is technically a difference. This week will feature only subtle changes in our day to day weather, dominated by more hot air and scattered afternoon storms.
TODAY: Highs will ramp up into the middle 90s this afternoon with heat index values at or above 100 degrees at times. Coverage of thunderstorms today should be pretty sparse, but what does develop will have an east to west movement.
While we typically watch for development across west Alabama to head our way, we'll be keeping an eye on east Alabama and Georgia into the afternoon and early evening. I have rain chances between 20-30% today.
REST OF THE WEEK: The core of the upper ridge essentially splits in two, with one center emerging west and another east. That weakness in the ridge will help additional storms get going as the workweek progresses with rain chances rising into the 40% range by midweek. More rain around coupled with a weaker ridge will make the heat slightly more bearable. But don't get me wrong, it's still going to be hot.
