Former ASU guard Jamel Waters to play in Romania

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Former Alabama State University point guard Jamel Waters has signed with Phoenix Galati from Romania. Waters, a 2016 ASU graduate and First Team All SWAC Honoree signed his deal becoming the latest Hornet to take his basketball skills to the next level.
Waters finished fourth in the SWAC in scoring last season averaging 15.9 points per game. He as fourth in assists (4.4), 10th in free throw percentage (.731), third in steals (1.8), second in three-point percentage (.413), first in three point field goals made (2.4), third in assists-turnover ratio (1.7) and sixth in minutes played (33.0).
He also became the 14th career-leading scorer in ASU history finishing his career with 1,527 points.
The Galati is part of the Euro Basketball League and will begin play in October with the season lasting into May depending on how far into post season play the team goes. Last season the Galati finished the season 16-16 and made it into the quarterfinals of the Liga National Play-offs.
