MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - We're coming to the end of another August workweek. Can you believe that by the end of next week, we'll be using the phrase "late August"? The following weekend will be September, meaning Summer's days are numbered. It will still be very warm today & into our weekend, but we do have some weather action to talk about...
TODAY: Lower 90s will be commonplace with a few spots briefly surging into the middle 90s. Scattered mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms will develop and press generally west to east.
We have plenty of high school football in the mix this evening. It will be a typical Summer night under the lights with warm conditions and only a few leftover showers/storms to contend with. Most of tonight's games will be dry, but a few may have to dodge those leftover echoes on radar.
THIS WEEKEND: Temperatures will continue to run in the lower 90s Saturday and Sunday with rain chances remaining slightly elevated, particularly on Sunday.
A cold front is approaching late this weekend, and it's proximity will allow for showers and storms to be a bit more numerous.
NEXT WEEK: That cold front sags southward Monday, allowing less humid air to rush in behind it. North Alabama will be the biggest benefactor of this front in terms of the cooler air, but central Alabama will get a small taste too.
The biggest impact locally will be the drop in dew points and a southward push of rain chances. With the front slowing up along the coast, showers and storms will favor south Alabama Monday into Tuesday. There won't be a huge difference in the temperatures themselves, but with less humidity a 92 on Monday will feel significantly nicer than a 92 on Saturday. Overnight lows Monday night could sneak into the upper 60s in a few spots, mainly northern parts of our area.
