MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Huntingdon Hawks held their third and final scrimmage this afternoon before starting game-like practices in preparation for their first game next Saturday at Louisiana College.
The scrimmage lasted a little over two hours, rotating the first-team, second-team and third-team players fairly evenly.
Coach Mike Turk says overall, the day was "Honestly pretty sloppy."
"We had some guys make some plays but it seemed like we were a little more worried about how hot it was, so we're just trying to get better but we did get a few things done and I do think we fought through some of it there at the end. So hopefully we'll be able to take something and get better but a lot of getting better to do," Turk said.
Granted, this was only their second full practice with class beforehand.
Turk wants his guys to get focused.
"We're just not very consistent," Turk explained, "Really, in any facet of our game right now on either side of the ball so that's number one. When we're really locked in and focused on what's going on, we're pretty good. But unfortunately, that's not all the time and that's when you get beat."
Turk said starting quarterback Luke Bailey did some good things in practice on Wednesday but had some mistakes as well including two delay of game penalties. Bailey threw for over 2,500 yards in 2015 as a junior and had 28 touchdowns.
The Hawks hope to live up to the preseason hype next week in their first game of the 2016 season. Huntingdon was voted preseason number one in the coaches USA South Poll.
