ELMORE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - The Elmore Correctional Facility was placed on lockdown Tuesday after an inmate was killed.

According to a news release from the Alabama Department of Corrections, Davieon Cotez Williams, 24, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Williams was pronounced dead at the facility's infirmary just before 5 p.m.

Another inmate, Jonathan Gladney, 41, was detained as a suspect in the stabbing. Gladney is serving a life sentence on a 2006 manslaughter conviction out of Barbour County.

Williams was serving a five-year sentence for rape in Chambers County.

Gladney has been moved to a higher level security prison and has been segregated from the general population.

ADOC officials say the Elmore Correctional Facility is no longer on lockdown.
