SAN ANTONIO, TX (WSFA) - The Alabama State Hornets dropped its season opener on Saturday to the University of Texas at San Antonio Road Runners at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The Hornets led the Roadrunners 7-6 at the end of the first quarter after Khalid Thomas punched the ball in from the 1-yard-line. Thomas finished the game with 94 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
The Roadrunners would then take over, scoring eight points in the second quarter and six points in the third quarter.
ASU would strike again with less than three minutes left in regulation, but the game was well out of reach at that point.
Jujuan Young-Battle led the Hornets under center, completing 11 passes on 18 attempts for 102 yards. Young-Battle was also sacked six times, and fumbled once.
Josh Davis led the Hornets' receiving corps with 38 yards on four receptions.
The Roadrunners' offense had no problem moving the ball on Saturday, racking up 449 yards of total offense. ASU was only able to accumulate 287 yards of total offense.
The Hornets will take on Alcorn State next week.
