MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - During the month of September in honor of 9-11 Day of Remembrance, one Montgomery area organization is engaging in a project called "Back the Blue".
Hands On River Region has joined forces with other community groups to show acts of kindness for the folks tasked with protecting and serving us all. Jo Ann Johnson is the Hands On River Region Director. She says It's important that law enforcement knows they have our support and respect.
"They play a very important role in protecting and keeping us safe. We're just mobilizing everyday citizens to thank them for all they do," said Johnson.
Hands On is passing out blue and black ribbons with their pin on it to show support and get the community behind this effort.n Johnson says she hopes folks with don the ribbons year-round, but there are any number of other ways to who our men and women in blue that we care.
"Cook them a meal. Take them coffee. If you see one of them in the grocery store, shake their hand," suggests Johnson. She says with all the negativity in the media, law enforcement could use a break and a pat on the back.
Johnson said, "They kind of get a bad rap. There may be one bad seed but they're certainly not all bad."
The ribbons are available throughout the month of September at the Hands On River Region office which is located at 101 Coliseum Boulevard in Montgomery.
Their number is (334)264-3335 or you can log onto their website.
