MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Mayor Todd Strange announced Wednesday afternoon the former Bishop-Parker Warehouse Showroom building will be renovated into a 103-room SpringHill Suites.

The historic downtown Montgomery building is located on Coosa Street in the entertainment district near The Alley and Riverwalk Stadium.

Construction should take about 12-14 months, which would put the opening for the hotel around Spring 2018. The hotel will have about 35 full-time staff and 10 part-time.

The entire project is expected to cost about $14 million and will bring the total number of hotel rooms in downtown to about 750.

Bishop-Park Furniture announced it sold the building earlier this year. Built in 1907, the building had housed the company's warehouse discount store and served as a storage and shipping center since 1993. The store's main location at McGehee Road and the Southern Boulevard is still open.
