Gunfire in Enterprise prompts Coppinville Jr. High to go on lockdown

ENTERPRISE, AL (WSFA) - Coppinville Jr. High School in Enterprise was placed on lockdown on Friday after police say shots were fired during an altercation nearby.

Police responded to the 900 block of Daleville Avenue around 1:12 p.m. in reference to a call of shots fired. Detectives at the scene discovered that an altercation took place in the 200 block of Cook Street, which led to the shots being fired.

During the altercation, detectives say eight to 10 shots were fired. A vehicle, occupied by one of the parties involved in the altercation, was struck four times by the gunfire. Police say no one was injured during the shooting.

Police officers also responded to the junior high school nearby when the shooting happened.

The school went on lockdown in response to hearing the gunfire, and the Enterprise Police Department placed officers in and around the school as a result.
