MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A presidential candidate's request to be on the November general election ballot in Alabama has been denied, according to Secretary of State John Merrill.

Roque De La Fuente filed a lawsuit in attempt to have his name on the ballot as an independent candidate for president. Judge W. Keith Watkins denied Fuente's motion for preliminary injunction Friday.

"We denied access to that candidate because we knew, according to the way the law has been written, that individual would not be able to gain ballot access because of the sore loser law," Merrill said Thursday.

After the judge denied the candidate's request, Merrill said he was pleased the court upheld the law.

The following candidates will appear on the ballot:

  • Hillary Clinton (D)
  • Donald Trump (R)
  • Gary Johnson (I)
  • Jill Stein (G)
