MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Some of the area's most upstanding operations were honored for their ethical standards Monday at the River Region Ethics in Business seventh annual awards luncheon.
The Samaritan Counseling Center, in partnership with Auburn University Montgomery, organized the program as a way to showcase local businesses that put an emphasis on integrity.
"It's very important to be known for your ethics and integrity. It's also important to do it and live it out. The award is great, and we are very appreciative of the award, but we are proud to say that we are a company that does our work the right way," said Caddell Construction Company ethics and compliance officer Angela Crosby. Caddell Construction Company was the recipient for the large business category.
(L-R) Caddell Construction, Cloverdale Service Center, Ms. Lynn Beshear, Balch & Bingham and the Tukabatchee Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The award also recognizes one individual for his or her ethical standards. Executive Director of Envision 2020, Lynn Beshear, was the recipient of the Maury D. Smith Award for excellence in professional ethics.
"It just doesn't seem real really," said Beshear of winning the award. "The other nominees are people of such high moral fiber that it is truly an honor to have been selected. To know that we have people like that in this community who every day go to work with the right thing on their mind and the right thing on their heart. It's been said that character is what you do when no one is looking, and it's clear that we have a lot of people and businesses here that are headed by individuals who have high ethics, high moral fiber."
Cloverdale Service Center won the small business category, Balch & Bingham LLP won medium business category, Caddell Construction Company won large business category, and Lynn Beshear won the individual category.
The luncheon is the largest fundraiser for Samaritan Counseling Center.
