DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - A Dothan distribution company is expanding, a move that will bring around 50 more jobs to the Circle City.

McLane Dothan supplies groceries, food service supply for convenience stores, mass merchants, drug stores and chain restaurants. They also distribute alcoholic beverages throughout the country.

"We work every day to try to bring jobs into our area," said Mark Culver, Houston County Commission Chairman. "McLane has been a great part of our community for about 15 years."

The Commission announced the expansion and approved a tax abatement for the project at Monday's commission meeting.

"This will basically allow them to save their sales and use tax on equipment and their building materials to construct the facility. It does not abate educational taxes, and then it also qualifies them for a 20-year tax abatement for their real and personal property," explained Matt Parker, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce president.

McLane President Michael Price said the company is looking forward to growing their footprint within Houston County's distribution park.

"Investing in the communities in which we operate is integral to our success, so we're thrilled to hear that support of our expansion in the Houston County Distribution Park was approved," Price said.

Construction is expected to begin on the $17 million investment at the beginning of 2017. It will be completed by the following year.
