MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The smell of popcorn and butter is floating through the Eastdale Mall once again.
The final touches are being applied to the new Eastdale Cinemas, ahead of a soft opening this weekend.
Next week, the theater will have its grand opening celebration for the public.
Evans Theaters out of Norman, Oklahoma is behind the project.
It's been nearly four years since Carmike Cinemas moved out of the eight-theater space to move to its current Chantilly Parkway location.
The Evans Theaters company has been working on getting the doors open since July.
They're a family owned business and they say that's the biggest difference between them and some of the bigger movie chains out there.
The company says their business model focuses not on higher ticket and concession prices, but rather on volume.
This is the second theater the Oklahoma-based company has opened. But they say picking Montgomery as the first place to expand their business was an easy decision.
"Fantastic people; Aronov, the realtors that own the property, are just absolutely fantastic people to work with," said Matt Evans, Vice President of Evans Theaters. "We fell in love with the people that we're going to have as partners in opening this business in the mall and we fell in love with the area. Montgomery's great, I haven't been fed so well in my entire life since I got down here."
Of course, Eastdale Mall's management is excited to have the movie theater up and running again. They also say to stay tuned, they're expecting to make another major announcement about a new business coming to their space in a few weeks.
