TALLAPOOSA CO., AL (WSFA) - The Tallapoosa county Sheriff's office is warning residents about a phone scam affecting the area.

According to officials, the scam begins with a caller that identifies himself as "Lieutenant Hayes" with the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department. The caller tells people that they have missed jury duty and asks to collect fees.

If you get a call like this, do not give the caller any personal information, officials say. Notify law enforcement immediately.
