MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Well, you can't have December without at least one decent shot of cold air, right? Temperatures today will remain pleasantly mild, offering no indication of the impending cool down. But make no mistake, our weather changes big time by the end of the week...
TODAY: Clouds are still defining our morning, slow to erode away to breaks of sunshine. I still think we see at least partial sunshine today as temperatures moderate into the upper 50s to lower 60s. We're dry all day and all night.
TOMORROW: The final front moves southward tomorrow with only a very slight chance of a sprinkle. There will be more clouds again tomorrow as a result. Colder air plows southward late in the day and overnight temperatures by the time you wake up Friday morning will fall into the 20s across central Alabama.
BIG TIME COLD: Friday will be a cold and raw day despite plenty of sunshine. Model guidance suggest highs will fail to climb out of the lower and middle 40s as temperatures fall back to freezing by late evening.
Friday night and Saturday morning will be the coldest night as lower and middle 20s blanket the region. That will be hard freeze territory and pets/plants/pipes will need to be tended to.
As is typical with early season cold snaps, this one doesn't last long. Temperatures climb back to 50 Saturday and will return to 60 Sunday in advance of our next chance of rain Sunday night into early Monday.
