MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Welcome the Class of 2017. The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame has announced its new list of inductees. The list includes well-known football, basketball, and baseball players, and one administrator.
Here's the list: Lee DeFore, Ken Donahue, Jim Goostree, Jeff Herrod, Todd Jones, Takeo Spikes, Kevin Turner, and Carnell Williams.
Lee DeFore played basketball at Auburn in the mid 60s. He currently ranks 12th on Auburn's all-time scoring list and was drafted by the New York Knicks in the fourth round.
Ken Donahue was an assistant football coach for 38 years, including 21 years as Alabama's defensive coordinator.
Jim Goostree was an athletic trainer for 27 years at the University of Alabama. He was later promoted to Assistant Athletic Director and worked with the Tide Pride donor program and the expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium. Goostree died in October 1999.
Jeff Herrod was born in Birmingham and played college football at Ole Miss. He's the second all-time leading tackler in SEC history. Herrod played 11 years in the NFL, 10 of those with the Colts.
Todd Jones played college baseball at Jacksonville St. in the late 80s. He played in the major leagues for 16 seasons with 9 different teams. He ranks 14th in Major League Baseball history in all-time saves.
Takeo Spikes was a standout linebacker for the Auburn Tigers in the early 90s. He was drafted by the Bengals in the first round and played 15 seasons in the NFL. Spikes was selected to play in the Pro Bowl twice.
Kevin Turner played his high school football team at Prattville. He went on to be a star fullback at the University of Alabama. Turner was drafted in the third round by the New England Patriots. He played 8 seasons in the NFL. He passed away in March after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Carnell Williams was a star running back at Auburn University. He was drafted by the Buccaneers in 2004 in the first round as the fifth overall pick. Williams played six seasons before retiring.
The induction Banquet and Ceremony will take place at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel on May 13, 2017.
