MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Waves of rain (some heavy) and embedded thunderstorms are keeping much of the viewing area wet this morning. Given the current drought situation, a forecast of continued rainfall into the afternoon is a promising one.
TODAY: Some of the echoes we've seen on radar thus far have been spitting out some impressive rain rates. Severe weather is not expected, but a few storms will remain possible this afternoon into the evening hours. Given the training nature of the downpours, locally heavy totals could result in minor flooding on roadways for a time.
Upper 60s to lower 70s temperatures seem reasonable for highs.
The threat for additional rain continues into tonight and overnight as the band of lifting begins to press southward. Gradual drying will occur from north to south overnight with remnant showers only remaining in south Alabama by morning with sunshine for the rest of us.
REST OF THE WEEK: Colder air presses into the region beginning tomorrow and really settles in Thursday. Thursday highs may struggle to even reach 50 degrees as overnight lows fall to either side of 30.
A rapid rebound kicks in for the weekend as highs Saturday are back into the 70s. A fresh cold front Sunday offers our next round of rain & storms for Sunday.
