MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - After selling its warehouse building downtown in May, Bishop Parker will soon open a new store.

After calling the corner building on Coosa Street home for 23 years, the company decided to make a change.

"Downtown is great, but it's not necessarily a retail destination and so we think it will be easy for customers just to hop off the bypass and come see both our stores," explained manager John Parker.

The new Bishop Parker Warehouse is located in the former Bruno's building on McGehee Road - just up the street from the main Bishop Parker store.

"We're going to be a lot more efficient than we were before," Parker said. "We think it will be a very comfortable place for our customers to shop. We've got a huge parking lot, air conditioning, things we didn't have before, and it's very close to our other store so it will be very easy for our customers to shop at both stores and see a very wide selection."

The building has been empty for at least 10 years. Just like the company helped downtown when it moved to the area, there is hope this new move will help with the revitalization efforts of that part of the city.

"A lot of exciting things are happening just in this one block of McGehee Road. We're opening up soon, but across the street we have LAMP school that's being worked on, there's a new probate office, there's a new medical clinic right behind that, a number of other locally owned businesses that are thriving and investing in the area and we are excited to be a part of it," Parker said.

The plan is to open the store by early January.

The old Bishop Parker Warehouse downtown is set to be turned into a hotel. The projected date to open the hotel is spring 2018.
