Suspect charged with murder after body found in Tallassee

ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - A suspect has been taken into custody and charged in the murder of 26-year-old Tallassee resident Stephvon Adams, according to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin.

Sheriff Franklin says 18-year-old Malik Johnson has been charged with one count of murder and one count of robbery. It appears that Johnson and Adams, who were acquaintances may have got into an argument over money.

According to a confession made by Johnson to officials, the two were inside a vehicle when several shots were fired at Adams who was sitting in the driver's seat. Adams was able to exit the vehicle and that is when Johnson says he then slid over the vehicle's console and got into the driver's seat. Johnson then ran over Adams.

Adams body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to determine the cause of death.

Johnson was taken to the Elmore County jail but his bond has not been set at this time. Sheriff Franklin says a bond should be set by Monday.
