MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A strong cold front continues to push through central and south Alabama today. Behind the cold front, temperatures are dropping like a rock. Temperatures will be in the 40s for most of central and southwest Alabama this afternoon and the 50s for southeast Alabama. Light to moderate showers will linger through most of the day so have a good jacket and keep an umbrella close by. Winds will remain breezy, coming out of the north between 10 to 15 MPH. Some gusts may be as high as 30 MPH.

There will be a few breaks in the rain, and maybe 1 or 2 rays of sunshine peaking through the clouds for a select few. But overall today will continue to be a rather soggy and chilly day. Wintry precipitation has developed over parts of north and northwest Alabama. The good news for us we are expected to stay above the freezing line while the rain moves through. So that means just regular rainfall for us.

Tonight a few post-frontal shower may linger across mainly southeast Alabama, while central and southwest Alabama deals with drier and cooler conditions. Models are showing signs of clearing skies overnight and in turn we have adjusted overnight lows. Low 30s will be widespread across the area. Areas over in west Alabama are the mostly likely to dip below freezing.

Other than a few early morning shower Monday, our workweek looks to start off dry. The sun will return for many through the day Monday and in turn we'll have slightly warmer than today in the lower 50s.  Partly cloudy skies will hold through Tuesday and Wednesday as we go through a gradual warming trend. Upper 50s for Tuesday afternoon and low 60s Wednesday.  But by Wednesday night our next storm system will arrive bringing another round of rain to the area through Thursday.
