MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Investigators with the Montgomery Police Department are releasing the name of a man killed in a three-vehicle, hit-and-run crash that happened Sunday on the Northern Boulevard and have confirmed one arrest in the case.
Montgomery Police and Fire Medics responded to the scene around 2:15 a.m. near the Boulevard and Lower Wetumpka Road. The crash involved a 2011 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle, a 2013 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle, and a 2005 Acura RL.
The driver of the Honda CBR, Michael Mulcahy, 39, of Wetumpka died on the scene. The driver of the Suzuki GSX was transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, and the occupants of the 2005 Acura, which left the scene, were uninjured
MPD has since charged the driver pf the Acura, Douglas Marks, 73, of Millbrook, with leaving the scene of an accident.
An initial investigation indicates the two motorcycles collided as they were traveling side by side eastbound on the Northern Boulevard. The collision caused both drivers to be vaulted from their motorcycles, landing in the westbound lanes. Investigators say Mulcahy was then fatally struck by Marks.
MPD investigators found Marks Sunday afternoon with help from the Millbrook Police Department. He was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Accident investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. No further information is available for release at this time.
