Identities in Friday night fatal crash on I-85 released

MACON COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - The identities of the victims in Friday night's fatal accident have been released.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Montgomery man Robert Linares, 55, and a 16-month-old of Hapeville, GA, lost their lives in a crash on Interstate 85 between mile markers 24 and 25, about two miles north of Shorter. The crash happened at 6:30 p.m.

Linares and the 16-month-old child were passengers in a 2001 Toyota Sienna. Linares was not wearing a seat belt, but the child was in a child-restraint system. The Toyota was hit by a 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer before striking a 2014 Ford Focus.

Three remaining occupants in the Toyota were taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Another collision happened shortly after the crash and caused damage to an I-85 bridge support, near the fatal crash scene. The roadway between the 22 and 26 mile markers is closed until bridge repairs can be made.

Troopers continue to investigate.
