Learning with confidence at Prattville Elementary
PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - With a helping hand and a little bit of creativity, anything is possible. That's one motto a Prattville Elementary School teacher lives by in the classroom, and her name is Cory Cyr.
Although she drives by several different schools during her morning commute, Mrs. Cyr travels through Elmore County to Prattville every day to work at a school and with a grade she loves.
"I have just always had a love for helping; that is sort of my personality," admits Cyr. "I like to help. And children are perfect for that. Fourth grade is the absolutely perfect grade. They are just old enough to do fun things, but they still want to please you, so it's a really cool grade."
After being an educator for a decade, Mrs. Cyr has learned to appreciate each student for the individual they are and is able to adapt her teaching style to any possible situation.
"I have really realized that they are people, too, and you have to meet them where they are and love them where they are," Cyr stated. "So they know their own self-worth and be encouraged to be the very best...If you can let them feel confident about being themselves, that will go a long way."
Another Autauga County teacher sent in the nomination after her own child was in Mrs. Cyr's class. Knowing her impact is being noticed means the world to this teacher.
"That makes me want to cry," Cyr said. "And it just makes me feel completely blessed and completely flattered that someone thinks of me like that."
