MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Faulkner University will be ending its theater degree programs, a university spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
Associate Director of Public Relations and Communications Christopher Kratzer says there isn't enough sustainable demand to continue operating the programs on campus.
An exact date for when the programs will discontinue wasn't released.
The decision comes as the university works to offer degree programs that will better align with the ever-changing marketplace.
"Ultimately, streamlining our degree programs at Faulkner will allow us to offer new programs in new fields that better meet the needs of students and the needs of our community," Kratzer said in a statement.
While the degree programs will close, Krazter says this doesn't eliminate opportunities for creative expression through drama for students.
"We envision multiple opportunities for our students and faculty to be engaged in theatre each year," Kratzer said. "Faulkner is committed to fine arts education, and we will continue to look for new opportunities to offer our students."
