DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - A former Dothan city commissioner is facing charges after Dothan police say he stole more than $10,000 from an investor.
Taylor Pippen Barbaree,46, of North Pontiac Street, was arrested and charged with one count of theft by deception first degree and one count of forgery third degree.
According to investigators, Barbaree set up a fake business to entice the investor and stole $10,000. The money was then deposited into a personal account, according to police.
Barbaree, who was the Dothan's District 5 commissioner for almost 10 years, resigned from his seat on Nov. 10, 2014. According to the Dothan city clerk's office, Barbaree said his resignation was based on his desire to return to private life.
His bond was set at $40,000.
