MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - An inmate at Draper Correctional Facility in Elmore has been detained after allegedly stabbing a corrections officer and two other inmates early Friday morning.
Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Bob Horton identified the suspect as Tyrone Eugene Dunn, 44.
The facility is locked down while the ADOC investigates.
Horton said prison officials reported Dunn and another inmate were involved in an altercation around 1:40 a.m. when the first stabbing happened. A second inmate and a male correctional officer responded to the incident, Horton said, and were also stabbed.
The officer and two inmates were transported to an off-facility hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. They have since been discharged.
Dunn is serving a 25-year sentence for a 2013 second-degree assault conviction out of Jefferson County.
No other officers or inmates were involved, according to Horton. The details on what started the incident also remain unknown.
The ADOC is not releasing the officer's name pending the investigation.
Draper, a medium security facility built in 1939, is one of Alabama's older prisons. A check of the last available ADOC report [Nov. 2016] indicates the facility is designed for 656 inmates but is currently at more than 160 percent capacity.
