AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Auburn University welcomed back one of its oldest alums to celebrate a major milestone Friday. Charles White graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration in 1949. He was 34 back then.

Since graduating he had only visited campus one other time. He now lives in Boaz, Alabama, about three hours north.

This visit was a surprise organized by White's family and the Auburn University Alumni Association to celebrate his 102nd birthday.

The red carpet was rolled out and it was all smiles as White was taken on a personal tour of campus, making stops at the College of Business, Athletic Complex and Samford Hall.

While lots of things have changed, this visit reminded him why he chose to attend Auburn more than 60 years ago.

"It has been a very pleasant experience. It is just amazing. It is overwhelming. The way the college has grown and the campus has been developed, it's so beautiful now. Not to say it wasn't beautiful back then, but it was a lot less of it," White explained.

White will officially celebrate his birthday on March 19. He says there is no secret to living this long. The only advice he can give to others is to treat every day as a fresh start and keep living.
