TALLASSEE, AL (WSFA) - Tallassee City Schools Superintendent Wade Shipman confirms that a person died in front of Tallassee Elementary School Tuesday night.

According to Shipman, school personnel found the deceased person, an adult female, inside a vehicle around 6 a.m. Wednesday. The woman was a former lunchroom worker who had not worked for the school district in a year, Shipman says.

Tallassee Police Chief Matthew Higgens says the woman's death is under investigation but it does not appear to be a case of foul play. Higgens says there were no obvious wounds or trauma that led to the woman's death.

School officials say there was no school safety issue associated with the incident. Shipman says the discovery did not delay classes and students were never aware of what was going on at the time.

We are working to confirm additional information with school officials and law enforcement.
