BUTLER COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - A Butler County man is facing several charges after the sheriff says he was caught running an illegal alcohol operation out of his house.
It's often referred to as a shot house.
Members of the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force, Georgiana Police Department and Butler Country Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at the home of Arthur Hugh Payton, 61, Wednesday on Washington Avenue in Georgiana.
Sheriff Kenny Harden says his agency received several complaints from the community about Payton selling alcohol and drugs out his house and agents made several undercover buys of alcohol from him
During the execution of the search warrants, the sheriff says marijuana was found in plain view in the home.
Payton was arrested and charged with two counts of sale of alcohol without license, possession of marijuana, possession of alcohol with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and certain person forbidden to possess a firearm.
According to Harden, guns, alcohol, drugs and money were seized.
Payton was booked into the Butler County Jail.
The sheriff's office believes Payton had been operating the shot house for several months, Harden indicated.
