MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Officials with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries have ordered poultry production in the state to return to its normal operating routines after avian influenza concerns in north Alabama.

John McMillan, the commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, says the order prohibiting poultry exhibitions and the assembling of poultry in Alabama has been rescinded after the reduced threat of the avian flu.

The order came into place after officials investigated three possible cases of avian influenza in north Alabama.

In a March press conference, McMillan stated that the cases were not a food safety issue. The birds involved were waterfowl, primarily consisting of ducks and geese.
