The Alabama State Department of Education has released the 2015-2016 School Year Graduation Rates.
The statewide graduation rate was 84.8 percent, meaning 47,977 seniors graduated out of 56,575. Of the 8,598 who didn't graduate, 2,558 students dropped out.
The 84.8 percent rate is a 4.5 percent decrease from 2015's rate of 89.3 percent.
Locally, Montgomery Public Schools had a graduation rate of 77.5 percent, down from 2015's rate of 79.4 percent.
The chart also divides students into subgroups based on race, income and educational needs. Statewide, every subgroup saw a decline. Most notably, students deemed Special Education dropped from a graduation rate of 72.4 percent in 2015 to just 40.9 percent in 2016.
