MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Registration officially opens Friday to be part of a world-record setting event. Shoot for Life Ministries is preparing to break the Guinness World Record for the most basketball shots made a by a group in a 24-hour period, and the most 3-pointers made by an individual in a 24-hour period.

"I need to make 425 shots an hour, that should be about 10,400," said Matt Bostic of Shoot for Life Ministries. "The first 4 hours, I need to make 11 a minute."

Bostic has done this before, twice actually,  in 2007 and in 2014. Both times he made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for making the most 3-pointers in 24-hours. This time, he's upping the game by adding the other 1,000 participants.

"No one's ever done this before," Bostic said.

The Shoot-A-Thon will happen August 25 and 26, from 3 p.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone can participate. The cost is $10 per person. Registration is online at this website.

"The mission of SFL is to equip people to handle the obstacles that life throws their way," the website says. "We offer counseling for addiction, obesity, marriage, and finances. We offer financial assistance to cancer patients. We offer scholarships to kids who cannot afford to play sports. We also partner with various organizations who share similar visions and values."
