OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - The RTJ Grand National golf course is preparing for the professionals as the Barbasol Championship tees off this week.
The Barbasol Championship is a homecoming of sorts for Patton Kizzire, Matt Gilchrest and Blayne Barber. Tuesday some of the golfers got ready for the tournament by stepping off the green and into a barber's chair.
"It's kinda funny cause you want to be at the British Open but being at home is just great," said Blayne Barber.
All three former Auburn University golfers made a stop by the Campus Barber Shop to clean up before the tournament tees off Thursday.
"That was kinda scary initially. The sharp object so close to your face, but it was comfortable. Never tried after shave before," said Matt Gilchrest.
"Cool experience. To lay back and have someone shave you like that was a little nerve wracking, but it was fun," Patton Kizzire.
"They did great they look clean and fresh," Barber.
Not only did these players shave their faces, but they are hoping to shave some strokes off their game.
"I played here in 2015 and didn't do my best, but I'm looking for redemption," said Kizzire.
"We achieved the goal of getting here now we have to do well. I want to play my best every time," said Gilchrest.
Being able to be in familiar territory may prove to be to their advantage.
"There is a little pressure, but there is also the comfort factor too. I'm familiar with grand national," said Kizzire.
The biggest bonus of all for these players would be to see the Auburn family show out in big numbers.
