TUSCALOOSA, AL (WSFA) - A Montgomery student was crowned Miss Tuscaloosa's Outstanding Teen 2018 on Saturday at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa.
Laura Henry, a freshman honor student at St. James High School, received $1,000 in gifts and services along with her crown and title Saturday. She will represent the Tuscaloosa area at the Miss Alabama's Outstanding Teen Pageant in Sylacauga in March 2018.
Henry's pageant platform is "Hiding in Plain Sight," which brings education and awareness to teen dating violence.
"My focus is on educating my peers on teen dating violence, prevention and assisting children of domestic violence," she said. "I am thrilled to have been chosen Miss Tuscaloosa's Outstanding Teen and I look forward to serving the people of Tuscaloosa throughout the upcoming year."
In March, the Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen Pageant made available $16,200 in cash scholarships and $736,648 in inked scholarships for its contestants.
Also crowned Saturday was Callie Walker, who was named Miss Tuscaloosa 2018. She will represent T-town at the Miss Alabama Pageant in June 2018.
In June, the Miss Alabama Pageant awarded $107,000 in cash scholarships and made available millions of dollars in inked scholarships for its contestants.
