AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - A man charged with the killing of an Auburn University student-athlete will stand trial on Sep. 25.

Markale Hart, who was indicted on murder charges in 2015, is accused of killing Auburn freshman and football player Jakell Mitchell in December of 2014.

Mitchell was shot and killed at the Tiger Lodge apartment complex on Long Leaf Drive. Detectives testified during the preliminary hearing that Mitchell was in a verbal argument with Hart's cousin, Tyrone Rowe and that both Hart and Mitchell were armed with weapons and exchanged gunfire.
