Geneva County girl 'okay' after attempted kidnapping; Suspects sought

GENEVA COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - The Geneva County Sheriff's Office continues its search for two suspects wanted in connection to an attempted kidnapping Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Tony Helms, it appears this case could involve a custody issue. His office is searching for two men in a dark blue Nissan sedan.

Helms said one of the men got out of the vehicle and tried to grab a 9-year-old girl while she was riding her bike in her front yard.

It was initially believed the man grabbed the girl by the neck, but the sheriff said it appears the suspect was trying to scoop her off the bike and into the car, but ended up grabbing her by the neck, though not in a choke hold.

The girl was able to escape from the man and run inside her home. She is said to be okay.

The suspects drove off on North County Road 61 towards County Road 41 north of Hartford, according to investigators.

Helms said there is the possibility this could be a family situation since the girl told investigators the man who grabbed her looked like her father, a man she hadn't seen in two years because of incarceration.

Anyone with information about these suspects or this vehicle is asked to call the Geneva County Sheriff's Office at 334-684-6947.
