MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department hosted its inaugural "Fishing with a Cop" event Friday in Montgomery.

The event is designed for participants in this summer's MPD Junior Police Academy and seeks to develop positive relations between law enforcement and Montgomery youth.

The fishing trip took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alabama Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Operators Course in southern Montgomery.

"This event provides a great opportunity for kids to be involved in positive recreational activities with our police officers," Police Chief Ernest Finley said. "Through the JPA and these relationships, we want to help young people imagine the unlimited possibilities available to them, as well as to introduce them to the fun and excitement of fishing."
