WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - There's a new candidate running against Martha Roby for U.S. Representative of Alabama's second congressional district.

Tommy Amason announced his candidacy Thursday at the Wetumpka Veterans of Foreign Wars Club. Amason is a command sergeant major in the U.S. Army Reserves, as well as a two-tour veteran of the Iraq War, according to his campaign manager, Coleman Amason.

Tommy Amason announced his candidacy as a Republican.

"We deserve a leader that understands that their job is to listen to you and carry YOUR concerns to Washington; not capitalizing on what's best for their career or wallet," Amason said.

According to Ballotpedia, there are only two other candidates so far in the race, one of them being Roby. The other is Republican candidate Barry Moore.

As of Thursday, no Democrat has announced their candidacy ahead of the June 5, 2018 midterm elections.

Amason also recently created a Facebook page promoting his announcement.
